Defend Lytham was formed in June 2006. The first most people knew about us was when we paraded at Lytham Club Day
We attracted a huge amount of public support, and continued to campaign throughout the summer
A sponsored walk and collections in the town square helped us with funding the publicity campaign and in retaining the services of an experienced and committed planning consultant, Anthony Padfield
One of the highlights was poll in the local paper where a massive 98.4% of the local population backed us in rejecting the projected development. Our petition signed by over 3,000 local residents was presented to the council shortly before Kensington Developments withdrew their application for the scheme.
Lytham Quays still exists, in name at least, as Kensington have decided to use it for the smaller development for which they already had planning permission.
The future of Dock Road is still uncertain and Defend Lytham remains vigilant here on your behalf.
