THE OBJECTIVES OF DEFEND LYTHAM
General
- To preserve Lytham’s heritage and to ensure that any development is in keeping with the special character and scale of Lytham
- To protect and preserve the very many fine trees and woodland areas within Lytham and its environs
- To enhance public awareness of the effect on the sustainability of the local, natural and urban environment of any part of Lytham by any development which is considered by the charity to be detrimental.
- To encourage and promote the provision of excellent educational, health and cultural facilities in Lytham for the public benefit
- Such of any charitable purposes for the general benefit of the inhabitants of the town of Lytham for which provision is not made from the public rates and taxes as the Trustees shall think fit.
Quality of Life
- To critically evaluate and, if necessary, oppose, any development that presents a threat to the wellbeing of local residents and the sustainability of the local natural and urban environment.
- To ensure an adequate social infrastructure in education, health, culture and welfare.
- To protect the safety and comfort of all the Town’s residents.
Housing
- To ensure that the total number of houses granted planning permission in the Borough and Lytham is in line with the policy framework provided by Regional Policy Note No 9 (RPG9) and emerging Joint Lancashire Structure Plan (JLSP).
- To ensure that any requirement for affordable housing in the Borough and Lytham is provided from within the total number of houses permitted by the JLSP and RPG9.
- To monitor developers’ compliance with limits imposed on planning permissions.
Industrial/Commercial
- To ensure that any industrial/commercial development in the Borough uses previously developed Brownfield sites land before developing Greenfield sites.
